Run for Srebrenica: Help for special needs children
(June 04/05, 2005.)
As you are aware, on the 4th and 5th of July 2005 "Sarajevo Bikers Club" MC organized a fundraiser "Run for Srebrenica: Help for Special Needs Children". The Run was extremely successful – around 200 bikes/ motorcyclists had joined the convoy , and around one tonne of supplies were distributed to the children of Sreberenica. On Saturday night, the rock concert had been organized and was very succesuful and well attended. Several pop-rock-reggae groups participated led by "Divlje jagode", which played till 3.30 a.m. Opening acts were "Hotel" from Amsterdam (Bueno Vista/Manu Chao), "Defense" from Tuzla which plays reggae, "Balkan express" from Banja Luka as representatives of hard rock, then "Mean Machin" from Bugojno (hip-hop), as well as regional stars "Veprovi" and "Pacijenti".
The day itself, Saturday 04.06.2005 was a lovely, sunny day that was promising an excellent ride through Kladanj to Srebrenica. At 9.00 a.m. motorcyclists started gathering at the parking lot in front of «Koševo» football stadium in Sarajevo. It was really great to see all those bikes approaching and excited motorcyclists who were eager to start with the Run as soon as possible. The media representatives were busy with their work i.e. preparation of reportages for their TV stations and newspapers. ALL Sarajevo's motocycle clubs came to the start point, as well as many guests from BiH and abroad, and especially we would like to emphasize motocycle clubs from Slovenia. Members of " Sarajevo Bikers Club " MC have marked each participant of the Ride, i.e. each motocycle with the sticker of the Club symbol – spread wings with the Club name in which is incorporated the name of our hometown that we are proud of. Fifteen minutes after nine, the convoy set off with loud announcment of movement and hard sounds from modified exhaust pipes, followed by a van with presents as well as EUFOR ( Slovenia) ER vehicle.
The ride to Kladanj, where we had the first break, went in good mood and free from fear that it might start to rain.
We arrived to Kladanj around 11.00 a.m. Welcome was organised in coffee bar " Camel ". The break was till 12.00 a.m., and many motocyclists used it to say hello to their old friends-motorcyclists whom they haven't seen for a while. It was a good opportunity to meet new friends as well. This break was organized at the first place in order to wait for the motorcyclists who were coming from the North: T uzla, Sanski Most , Croatia and Slovenia. The Tuzla boys , as well as motorcyclists from Banovi ć i showed up in an organized manner and in a grand style so it was like a scene from the American movies. They joined the group, that slowly left Kladanj at «twelve noon», as planned. In Kladanj, the van with presents was significiantly filled up with donations brought by the above mentioned motocycyle clubs and individual motocyclists.
The ride from Kladanj in Srebrenica direction went in an even better mood, and all junctions were «blocked» by police in order to provide safe and fast pass for the motorcycles. It was great and unsurpassed enjoyment to ride in such a huge and powerful convoy of motorcyclists that resembled the Chinese wall moving thorugh Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The entrance to Srebrenica was magnificent : the noise from exhaust pipes created purposly by motocyclists as sign of hello and sound of sirens made the citizens of this small place to come out and welcome us who came to express our respect for THEM. It was a sad and poignant moment at the same time . The moment that we experienced last year, and that, God willing, we shall experience next year. And in the years to come.
