Run for Srebrenica: Help for special needs children
(June 04/05, 2005.)
After the "reception" of motorcycles at local handball stadium where list of all clubs was made, it was refreshment and food time. Little bit of crowd but it was understandable since we have been driving in a sun and just a look towards bar seemed as rescue. Soon after that, motorcyclists “scattered”: some went to neighboring coffee bars, some to famous spa sources on Guber, and some went to memorial center "Potočari".
With the first signs of sunset, motorcyclists started to show up at the “meeting place” again, and many of them decided to give a ride to the small fellows and by doing so to provide them great pleasure. Soon the distribution of the gift-packages began (toys, schools supplies, clothes, food etc.) in cooperation with Srebrenica Municipality and the Mayor Mr. Malkić. It was interesting and fun to see the Mayor casually dressed, riding in an old side car of an even older motorcycle and symbolically gives and “order” for the unload of packages to start (see the picture gallery).
Then the accommodation arrangements for the bikers were done. Beside the fact that "Sarajevo Bikers Club" MC provided the camping space with hot and cold water, shower facility and fenced area for the tents as well as two guards, almost nobody needed to camp cause in the meantime we managed to arrange with citizens of Srebrenica to offer FREE accommodation in private houses. This act of Srebrenica people shows how glad they were that something like this has been organized and how important for them it was!
Concert atmosphere was excellent, without any negativity in the air. It was great rock 'n' roll biker's night that lasted till 3.30 a.m. !
The morning was just like morning after party. Hung over bikers are coming out in search for coffee. From the most terraces of recently reconstructed houses you could hear invitation for coffee. It seemed like we were in another world, outside time and space.
Step-by-step, bikers became "consolidated", packed their things, and as though they were ordered to, they gathered on the square in the center of Srebrenica for a “good bye coffee”. There were people from Dalmatia , Sanski Most, Tuzla , Mostar, Zenica (Slovenians, what happened to Slovenians, somehow they have “disappeared” so that we haven't even seen them?)
Good bye Srebrenica, thank you for what you have given us, good bye till next time.
